It would appear that British director, Ben Wheatly will be directing an episode of the upcoming 8th series of Doctor Who.
Empire magazine retweeted earlier today:
“Exterminate List… Just overheard in the office: Ben Wheatley to direct upcoming episode of Dr. Who.”
Wheatly is best known for his critically-acclaimed films ‘Down Terrace,’ ‘Kill List,’ ‘Sightseers,’ and this year’s ‘A Field in England.’ He has been a Whovian for years and said in an interview with Uncut that he found the era of Tom Baker to be particularly creepy:
“All the Doctor Who stuff is really scary around that period. I’ve been re-watching a lot of the Tom Baker stuff with my son, and it’s so spooky. They’re actually shooting on location in nuclear power stations, running around inside these reactors… I’m ready to be proved wrong by legions of Whovians, but it certainly looks like it to me, it looks dangerous wherever they are. I was watching Genesis Of The Daleks this morning. It’s so moody!”
Could his episode possibly include the Daleks? We’ll have to wait and see!
It must be getting old really quick for Paul McGann to have to deny rumors about making an apperance in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary, but it doesn’t help that the majority of these rumors come directly from his personal Twitter feed.
Last night, Whovian excitement was stirred up with a tweet from the McGann himself saying: “Spent forty minutes this pm having to imitate Matt Smith’s dramatic delivery in VO. You have been warned….”
However, he quickly followed up the tweet with an explanation: “I should explain. It was by way of an aural experiment to find out how similar we might sound. We didn’t. And he’s better looking too.”
McGann already denied involvement when asked directly: “No, I’m not in the 50th, though plenty of beautiful and talented people are.”
Guess we’ll have to wait 50 days until we know for sure…
